30 Days with Fitbit plus WIN YOUR OWN FITBIT! [Update: Contest Over]

Fitbit Flex | GadgetGuide.ca

Thirty days ago I decided to jump on the wearable technology bandwagon and pick up a Fitbit Flex activity tracker to test out for myself.  This was a big deal for me…you see I’m not the most athletic person, but that’s not to say I don’t monitor my health and try to get some physical activity in when I can.  I really wasn’t sure the Fitbit was for someone like me, but after wearing it nearly 24/7 for the past 30 days (aside from its weekly charge), I can say with confidence that the Fitbit has made me a healthier person.

The Fitbit Flex works by monitoring my activity on a daily basis through a variety of sensors.  I can then log into the Fitbit app for iOS, Android, or web, and view detailed minute-by-minute data on my steps, distance, calories burned, and sleep quality at night.  Fitbit even has a tiny little vibrate motor inside the device that lets me use it to wake myself up silently in the morning.

I took Fitbit with me on a recent vacation to Florida, and found myself not only being more aware of my health, but more inclined to improve it.  On more than one occasion I found myself going for an evening stroll in Miami to get that last final dot and the satisfying vibration that comes with me reaching my step goal.  I found Fitbit to work incredibly well, and hold a charge for about 5-6 days.  I can only pick on two small features that weren’t up-to-par with the rest of my experience.  Putting the device into sleep mode requires incessantly tapping it, which often takes upwards of 10 seconds.  Fitbit also offers a comprehensive online comparison tool that they call ‘Fitbit Premium’, which lets users compare their activity against the world.  The service costs a steep $49.99 a year, and I’d like to see that price come down in the future.

The most active I’ll ever be…thank you Disney World.

Overall, the device has been great and I almost forget I’m wearing it most of the time. The people around me, however, don’t.  I’m constantly asked what my futuristic-looking bracelet is, and people are often intrigued by the idea.  I think it shows that the public really has an interest in wearable technology, and I can’t wait to see the kind of reaction Google Glass gets once it becomes more mainstream!

Now comes the fun part! Because I’ve loved my Fitbit so much, I’ve decided to give away a brand new Fitbit Flex to one of our lucky readers!  Rogers has been gracious enough to provide us with the device to giveaway, but if you can’t wait and need one now, you can pick one up from them here.

The contest begins on January 10, 2014, and ends on January 31, 2014.  Enter and see full details below.
